Their first job is to arm themselves, then they use it to appropriate the food and other resources that they need for their revolution, and then they dispense rough justice to show the populace that they are going after their exploiters and the corrupt. But all this Taliban-style justice serves one aim: keep the population in awe of their power. It also helps them extort money from businessmen and traders, without which no revolution can be financed.

what is naxalism? who influences naxalism? Naxalites are a group of far-left radical communists, supportive of Maoist political sentiment and ideology. A Naxal or Naxalite is a member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The term Naxal derives from the name of the village Naxalbari in West Bengal, where the movement had its origin. Naxalites are considered far-left radical communists, supportive of Maoist political sentiment and ideology. Their origin can be traced to the split in 1967 of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), leading to the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist). Initially the movement had its centre in West Bengal. In later years, it spread into less developed areas of rural southern and eastern India, such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through the activities of underground groups like the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The Chhattisgarh Naxal attack has once again shown Naxals to be the biggest threat to Indian security forces. Despite India having some of the bravest security forces in India, how are Naxals still such a strong force in India? In this episode of "ye Kaise Hua", I offer 5 reasons for why India is not able to eliminate the Naxal problem, including support of Urban Naxals and a confused strategy from the government. NAXALISM IN INDIA: Introduction, Reasons, Actions | Naxalism Red Corridor In 1967, a land dispute took place in the Naxalbari village in West Bengal, where a peasant was beaten up by few local landlords. This dispute led to some violent clashes between individuals and groups. Thus, the peasant community started a movement, under the leadership of Charu Majumdar and Kanu Sanyal, and named it as the ‘Naxalite Movement’. The movement originated in West Bengal, and later its span increased till Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Naxals were considered to be the far left communists, following the ideology of Chinese leader Mao Zedong. The first phase of the movement came to an end in 1971 after the arrest and subsequent death of Charu Majumdar.
